Wellness goes unnoticed when it's there. It's only noticed when it's gone.

77% of employees with access to structured wellness programs feel that their company cares about their health. Only 38% of those without access feel the same way.
A 39-point difference. Not because of how good the program is. Just because it exists.
This contradicts something many organizations assume without questioning: that wellness must be designed perfectly before launching it, or it's better not to launch it at all.
The data says otherwise. The mere existence of a structured program already shifts the perception of care dramatically. Before measuring effectiveness, before optimizing, before personalizing.
That doesn't mean any program works the same. It means that the cost of having nothing is much higher than most executive committees imagine.
And the context makes that cost increasingly urgent. 9 out of 10 employees report having experienced burnout symptoms, and more than half of Gen Z and millennials report rising stress levels year after year.
That generation already makes up a good portion of the active workforce. And they will make retention decisions based on a simple question: does this organization have something structured for my well-being, or are they winging it?
The most common mistake I see in organizations that do want to invest is this: they delay launching any initiative until they have the ideal program. Meanwhile, their employees are sitting squarely in the 38% group.
The reframing is simple but uncomfortable: the absence of a wellness program is not neutral. It is a signal that employees actively interpret, even if no one in the organization is thinking about it in those terms.
Having nothing isn't "not deciding." It's deciding that well-being isn't a priority. And employees are reading it that way.
The question worth asking isn't whether your organization's wellness program is perfect.
It's whether something structured enough exists so that your employees feel they are on the 77% side, and not the 38% side.
Which side of that gap is your organization on today?
